Virgin of Kazan Icon - Large Copper Relief Oklad - Russian Orthodox Icon 22x18 cm - Red copper Accents
Large Russian Orthodox icon depicting the Mother of God of Kazan, crafted with a richly embossed copper oklad (basma) and highlighted with accents. The relief work is crisp and highly decorative, giving the icon a warm metallic glow. The central image is protected beneath the metal covering, as traditionally seen in Russian devotional icons.
This example dates to mid 20th century (ca. 1950-1980) and represents the popular Soviet-era production of copper relief icons. The piece has a strong presence, vivid colours and an ornate floral border typical of this period. The icon is mounted on a solid wooden board and remains in very good vintage condition.
A striking display piece.
