Large Polish midcentury PRL design sculpture of a European bison, or żubr, hand carved in wood circa 1960s. The powerful, compact form, lowered head and deeply carved mane give the sculpture a strong modernist character typical of post-war Polish decorative design. Mounted on its original natural-edge wooden base and retaining the original Polish retail label underneath. The żubr is one of Poland's national animals and is associated with strength, endurance and the primeval Polish landscape.
Dimensions: approx. 38 cm wide × 27 cm high.
