Hand-carved wooden nutcracker from the Erzgebirge region of Germany, dating to the mid-20th century. This early tourism piece depicts a bearded man with a hinged lower jaw operated by the curved handle, allowing nuts to be cracked between the carved teeth. Made from solid hardwood with a warm natural patina. it is traditional craftsmanship for which the folk art wood objects of the Erzgebirge became well known during the early post-war tourism period. Height: approximately 20 cm. Minor wear consistent with age and use.
