18th Century Austrian Baroque Putto - Polychromed and Gilded Wood
Charming Austrian Baroque putto carved in wood during the 18th century. Retaining traces of its original polychrome decoration and gilding, with a beautiful aged patina developed over centuries. The expressive face and lively pose are characteristic of Central European Baroque ecclesiastical sculpture. An old iron suspension ring remains on the reverse, indicating that the figure was likely once part of a larger church or altar ensemble. Wear and losses consistent with age. A highly decorative and authentic period sculpture.
