Description:
A powerful and rare mandau — the traditional sword of the Dayak people from Borneo (Kalimantan, Indonesia). This ethnographic weapon features a hand-carved wooden hilt adorned with tribal patterns, natural animal hair, and a scabbard wrapped in fur and hide. The scabbard is richly decorated with real animal teeth, green beads, and hand-painted motifs, all tied with plant fiber and leather strips.
The blade is forged from aged steel with visible handwork and patina, showing signs of traditional craftsmanship.
This piece was acquired from an antique dealer and is likely from the early 20th century. It was made for ceremonial or ritual use, not as a tourist item. A striking addition for collectors of tribal art, headhunter weapons, or Indonesian ethnography.
Measurements (approx.):
Total length: 68 cm (26.8 inches)
Blade length: approx. 48 cm (18.9 inches)
