Rozenburg was founded in 1883 by Wilhelm Wolff Freiherr von Gudenberg. With the aim of manufacturing Delft blue pottery. He soon developed a fascination with the then modern art movement, l'Art Nouveau. Rozenburg alternated between architectural ceramics and decorative objects, between panels and precious porcelain. Freiherr shared his interest with T.A.C. Colenbrander (1841-1930), a master in creating typical exotic floral designs with a warm color palette. His designs were strongly inspired by nature and its shapes.
Rozenburg participated in an international exhibition and attracted attention with, among other things, her wafer-thin and extremely valuable eggshell porcelain. Vases, clocks, bowls and jars were hand-painted by well-known painters such as H. W. Mesdag (1831-1915), Willem Zwart (1862-1931) and W.B. Horssen (1863-1931). The unstable economy and the high costs of valuable products led to Rozenburg having to close its doors in 1917. To this day, Rozenburg products are true collector's items.
