Art Deco Ceramic Bookends, Muscular Men, Godefridus Boonekamp, 1930s

Large art deco bookends of naked muscular men. Design by ceramic Art Deco artist Godefridus Boonekamp and made in the Netherlands, by Plateelbakkerij Schoonhoven in around the 1930s. they came in limited edition.

The set of white bookends is made of white glazed ceramic. overall the set is in good condition with some small traces of use.

The supports are marked with the associated brand 'UZS'.

Weight of the set 2811 grams.

Godefridus Boonekamp was a Dutch designer and sculptor, renowned for his contributions to the Art Deco movement in the early 20th century. Born on July 25, 1888, in Leiden, Netherlands, he is best known for his collaboration with Plateelbakkerij Schoonhoven, a prominent Dutch ceramics manufacturer.

Around 1931, Boonekamp designed a series of striking white glazed ceramic bookends for Plateelbakkerij Schoonhoven. These pieces, often depicting stylized human figures, are marked with the impressed stamp "UZS" and are considered exemplary of Dutch Art Deco design. They remain sought-after collector's items today, appreciated for their craftsmanship and historical significance.

While detailed records of Boonekamp's life and broader body of work are limited, his surviving creations continue to be celebrated for their artistic value and contribution to early 20th-century Dutch design.
