Antique Victorian Brass Peacock Fan Fireplace Screen, 19th Century
Antique Victorian folding fireplace screen in brass, dating from the late 19th century. The screen opens from the central frame into a large fan, with individually pierced brass panels arranged in the form traditionally known as a peacock fan fire screen.
The elaborate central frame has scrolling foliage, pierced ornament and a tall decorative finial. When opened, the pierced panels form an impressive semicircular screen; when closed, they fold neatly into the central frame.
A substantial and highly decorative antique fireplace piece, preserved in very good condition with a warm aged patina and only minimal traces consistent with age and use.
