Antique bronze nesting cup weight set, also known as a Nuremberg closing weight. The set consists of a cylindrical outer case with a hinged lid and carrying handle, containing six graduated cup weights that nest neatly inside one another.
These portable weight sets were used for accurately weighing coins, precious metals and other valuable commodities, and were commonly found in the hands of merchants, goldsmiths and apothecaries.
