Lieutenant-Admiral General Michiel de Ruyter grabs Cornelis Tromp's right hand with both hands, while Stadtholder William III seals this gesture of reconciliation with his hands raised. The admirals' reconciliation was completed in April 1673, after both had been at odds for almost seven years.

De verzoening van de admiralen kreeg haar beslag in april 1673, nadat beiden bijna zeven jaar lang in onmin hadden geleefd.
