Rare 19th-century Qajar four-spout tulip vase. The unusual form has a rounded body with a tall central neck and three smaller openings around the shoulder, designed for arranging individual flowers.

The vase is hand-painted with birds among stylised flowers and foliage in cobalt blue, turquoise, green, pink and brown, outlined in black. The warm cream ground has a strongly crackled glaze that gives the surface its characteristic antique appearance.

Multi-spout tulip vases have a long tradition in old ceramics, with four-necked examples documented during the 19th century. The combination of the unusual form, naïve bird decoration and colourful floral design makes this a particularly decorative example of Qajar pottery.
